I've been accused of sheltering my child and censoring his curriculum. Others have told me my son would be a better influence on his public school counterparts if I would put him back in public school. It is the season to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but it is becoming harder than ever to see Him anywhere in our society. Do you think that has anything to do with public schools and their curriculum?
Unfortunately, it is common for homeschoolers to have to defend their actions to others. When I see the violence displayed on television nightly and I hear about the disintegration of families around the world, I ask why? Why am I having to defend what I know and believe is right for my child? The following excerpt by Ken Ham from Why Won't They Listen describes some of the reason there is moral decay in our public school systems, and why others may never hear what I have to say to defend my actions.
You may be thinking that was in 1975 and does not apply today, but we've had one, maybe two, generations indoctrinated in the belief public school science is the infallible truth. After all, scientists are smarter than I am, so why shouldn't they be believed over me and my opinion. Through the years they have steadily made ground with their convictions the Bible is just a story book full of myth and folklore. Most no longer even see it as history with meaning and reverence.
So, why is the Bible so important in education? If students are not taught the truths of the Bible where are they to gain insight into how they are to behave, where they come from, who they are, and why they are here? Too many parents are relying on public schools to teach their children character, values, and manners.
The Bible is our moral compass, and there are no lessons on morals offered through science.
Some scientists are very eager to disprove the Bible, but their findings are not backed by concrete truths. Unfortunately, scientific myth has been integrated throughout every subject in public school curricula. With this being the case our education is not balanced by promoting such findings. Even great scientists like Benjamin Franklin and Galileo were able to balance science and the Bible. By teaching children on the basis of only their fallible science and disregarding the Bible completely they set our children up to believing lies.
Homeschoolers teaching from the standpoint of providing all facets of discovery do their children more of a service in their education than public schools who only offer a one-sided, devalued education. Since this has been going on for years, our generation has been blinded to the truth. They will never understand why I choose to offer more to my son. They believe in a government run education, and the Bible should be banned.
Offering biblical truths about true science is all the censoring required in any curricula. I show my son love and affection by being forthright and honest about all forms of science. And influencing others with strong family bonds and proper behavior is all the example my son needs for socialization and being a well-rounded student.
I have no doubt homeschooling will have a mighty impact on my child, our family, and society. I'm raising, teaching, and training a future leader who will be better educated for a better future. Maybe he will have a future where everyone remembers the reason for the season. And you can't find Him in a public school textbook.

What a great article. You can't remove religion from schooling, particularly in history. Religion plays a huge role in the development of Europe and North American cultures. But people must also be willing to teach the good as well as the bad parts of all history and the religious stories that go with it if we are to learn anything from our history so we can go forward with peace. Hope I made sense there:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing another wonderful article.! We are blessed in the US to be able to homeschool and build our "domestic church" by trying to set a solid Christian and moral foundation for our children. This is something I take for granted and this article reminds me of how blessed I am to be able to homeschool. Clicked votes for you:)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
A God-centered world is a world of balance. It allows for the acceptance of Science. A science-centered world only allows for the acceptance of science. Balance is lost. (along with a good many other things, like peace and charity)
ReplyDeleteThank you for instilling in your home-schooled child a sense of values that will support and sustain them throughout their lives.
