I just don't get it

If I hear "I don't get it" one more time my head will explode.

I've spent the better part of two weeks going over basic skills with my son only to receive that blank stare.  Or I wait hours for just one worksheet to be completed.  Then when the disappointing results are finally placed in front of me, I just want to scream.

WHAT is there not to get!

We've all been there, or had some experience with these moments.  They are trying of ones' patience to say the least, but this is when it matters the most to remember why you're doing this.

The best thing you can do at this point is put the work away and take big breath.  Productivity will completely stop if we become slave driving, constantly nagging, screaming drill sergeants.

Go outside and play.

Get your mind and your child's off work and have some fun.  You can always reevaluate what you're doing after you've cooled down.  Look at the big picture.  Maybe this is a subject you need to take an extending break from.  There's nothing wrong with waiting.

You may be dealing with a learning disability.  Or it may be laziness, manipulation, or the need for a good dose of character training.  But you don't want your child to lose the love for learning by forcing something on them they're just not ready for.
