It's a simple practiced act...

I reach into the box for the expected bill or advertisement, but there's another envelope that grabs my attention.  It's business sized, addressed in pencil.  Handwriting unmistakable, the name in the upper left-hand corner confirms the undeniable.

Time stands still...  beating heart races...  hands shake... breathing becomes labored.  Overwhelming fear takes hold...

But, wait!

Closing now moist eyes, I take a deep calming breath.

It's a simple practiced act.

“...the righteous will live by faith.”  Galatians 3:11

In the safety of home, opening the envelope slowly with monumental effort.  Words are slowly and methodically read.  The fear and discomfort try to make their way to a heart once broken and torn.

Prayer slips from lips gone dry from anxiety and pain.

It's a simple practiced act.

"...let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings."  Hebrews 10:22

Fear sneaks in to pierce unsuspectingly, sometimes it emerges full force.  But, it's a simple practiced act of faith that will overcome it's deadly intent.

"For we live by faith, not by sight."  2 Corinthians 5:7

Putting trauma from the past away is as simple as placing it in the Father's hands.  Gaining strength to say no more to domestic violence takes faith.

Faith, it's a simple practiced act!

  5. Thank you for this post. How true it is that fear will slip in when we least expect it; but we have a God who is above all things.
