Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

As you can imagine with all that's been happening, school was the last thing on my mind.  But I'm happy to say my son was as diligent as can be expected and completed most of his work.

My mother is doing much better.  Her memory of the past few days is spotty, and she's imagining that it was just a dream.  That being said, when she was informed of her violent behavior she was very apologetic and contrite.  Bless her heart, she's been trying to make it up to the nurses and me ever since.

In our homeschool this week…

My son did a lot of reading.  He is caught up on Bible study, history, and science.  Next week I've decided a fun project is in order.  We bought a kit to make a volcano, and he has been excited to get it started.

We will also be focusing on math.  Not much was accomplished in this subject this week, and I want to get him past whatever is holding him back.  It could be a discipline issue, or that he just doesn't "want" to apply himself.  Either way, that will be our main objective next week.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I cannot express enough how much I've learned this week to find balance in our activities.  We need to have time for rest.  Having too much fill our days puts a strain on our ability to focus on what really matters

I am inspired by…

Stacy, Julie, Christine, Maria, and the other nurses at the hospital.  They were encouraging and helpful in so many ways that went above and beyond their job requirements.  Since I live less than five minutes away from the hospital, I was able to balance my time at home and the hospital.  They were kind enough to keep me informed, let me get some rest, and complete some homeschooling with my son.

They took most of the punishment from my mother's behavior, and offered a shoulder when they saw I needed an emotional moment.  They treated my mother with respect and dignity.  Thank you to all of the Lodi Memorial Hospital staff!

My favorite thing this week was…

Winning the Mega Homeschool Giveaway!  Wahoo, I'm still pinching myself about this one.  Out of almost 3000 entries I was chosen and won some amazing prizes.   Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I’m grateful for…

All the prayers, emails, comments, and support from my friends and family.   Problems come and we loose focus, but having a strong foundation of support and having God's hand in everything make situations easier.

  3. So glad your mother is doing better. I am so glad the nurses were supportive and understanding for both you and your mother. It is amazing how the body and mind changes when the body's system is out of order, I have seen it many times when I was working. So please your son was able to do most of his work for you during this stressful time:) Math is my family's sticking point too (including me). Hope you get it figured out:) You are in my prayers daily my friend

  4. We made volcanoes in our science lab coop several weeks ago and erutped them last week. If you don't want to keep the volcano afterwards, let him try diet coke and mentos. The kids loved it (but it makes a huge mess - definitely an outdoor activity). Thanks for sharing your week

I am so glad you found the much needed support from the nurses for your mother and that is great that your son had productive school time in the middle of your stresses with caring for your mother! Congrats on your giveaway win again! Awesome! I'm glad your mother is doing better and both of you have some peace about the past week's events. God bless and thoughts and prayers continue to be with you!
