When I posted about receiving the Stylish Blogger Award I posed the question to you for ideas of 7 things about myself that you'd like to know. Here are my answers to the first 2 questions. If you have a question for me leave it in the comments below. I need 5 more, so ask away.
1. Anna-Marie asked, "What is your favorite place to live and why?"
1. Anna-Marie asked, "What is your favorite place to live and why?"
I would love to live in a cabin in the Colorado Rockies. When I was a 'tween a friend invited me one summer to go with her and her family to their cabin. It was the most memorable summer ever.
There was a stable in the little town that was within walking distance of their cabin. The stable was for visitors/tourists to rent horses for scenic tours around the area. Every night my friend and I would walk to the stable and help the owners take the horses out to pasture. The pasture was about a mile away, so my friend and I would let the horses have their heads and race to the field.
One night we pulled her huge bean-bags onto the wrap-around porch and fell asleep gazing at the stars. We would have froze if it hadn't been for her mother putting electric blankets over us sometime during the night. The best part was waking up to the birds singing, and the homemade waffles her mother made that morning.2. Tracy asked, "What is your favorite holiday and why?"
It's really hard to choose only one from my two favorite holidays, they are Christmas and The Fourth of July.
I tend to be a sappy, sentimental person, and Christmas always makes me feel this way. The birth of Christ and the celebration of giving. The reason of His birth and the ultimate gift His death was for us. I love Christmas music, the lights, the laughter, the food and candy, and the movie "A Christmas Carol". I own 5 versions of the movie, and watch it constantly in December.
In the town I grew up in, Greeley Colorado, there is two weeks of Fourth of July celebration. They have the Greeley Independence Stampede every year. There is a carnival with rides and games, exhibits and contests, and of course the rodeo and concerts. They end the celebrations with the parade and fireworks. It is the states biggest Fourth of July Parade, and everyone wants to be a part of it.
From the age of about 13 I participated in some way either by helping make a float, being on a float, walking next to the float and handing out candy, working a booth at the carnival, or as an attendant at the stadium.
Here is a video of some of the events at the rodeo. KatofDiamonds made this video for some of her UK friends who didn't know what a rodeo was. It brought back some fond memories for me.
This next video has a few highlights of the biggest Fourth of July parade in the country, and it is also a wonderful Veteran's Day salute to our soldiers since this happens to be that day.
From the person who shot the video ~ "A Weld County, Colorado veterans group asked if I would donate my efforts shooting a video that would be included in the packages they would be sending to the troops. The 2009 Greeley, Colorado 4th of July Parade was the setting. I was honored to oblige."
Happy Veteran's Day! Keep the questions coming. I have to share 5 more things about myself and I need your help.
