What is Pegging?

Do you know who Roy G Biv is?  What do FACE and Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge have to do with music?  How about "the little boy is just like the Big boy only smaller, while the dog tries to get into the Dog house."

These are just a few of the many tricks I remember from elementary school.  There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of these sayings that help students memorize little details they may otherwise forget.

They are also a wonderful way for your children to think you are a "crazy" mom.  It's not uncommon for me to sing or talk to myself while working around the house.  I make up songs and sayings to remember what I want to get done for the day.  My son laughs at many of my "memory helpers", but I get the last laugh because they are sticking in his little mind too.

There is a wonderful word for this, it is called Pegging.  If you are a visual person such as myself then you may have been doing this for years also.  The beautiful thing we can do is pass these tricks down to our children.

Their little minds are working overtime from birth to about age twelve.  Their many brain cells are forming connections like the electrical wiring in your home.  At about the age of thirteen the less used connections start to deteriorate.  That is why it is so important to know what your child's learning style is at an early age.  The more connections you can help them build and use the better their memory will be.

I will be featuring an article on Thursday that will give you more ideas and information about pegging.  I hope you will come back to read it.
