Christ Followers Academy Week 2, 2011-12

Our week started on a rather sour note due to unfortunate activities on Sunday.  Then my little man decided to raise a big stink about doing school work Monday morning.  Needless to say I won (again), and he is grounded from television and free computer time until further notice.

It's been rather enjoyable not having the television on, and my son has spent a considerable amount of time reading.  Wow!  What a concept.

This week we had another adjustment to curriculum.  Last week we started history in one book, this week we changed to another that was more on my son's level.

On Wednesday we seemed to have an issue with a math lesson.  I was prepared for this, but I didn't expect it to happen so soon. I've been letting my son complete the MEP math interactive lessons first to see how far he could go before the "real" lessons should start.  About mid-week he reached a lesson that was a bit of a challenge.  So next week I'll be preparing for "regular" math lessons.

I still haven't found that elusive grammar curriculum I've been looking for.  After checking out many different sites and books, and weighing the pros and cons of just putting it off until later it's come down to two major thoughts:
  1. We most definitely could wait.  My son is working on other areas like handwriting, spelling, and reading comprehension, so grammar could fit in nicely later.
  2. Why would I want to force a hated subject on him now.  Wouldn't that seem to just hinder his love for education.
So, end of dilemma.  We shall wait.

I am excited to incorporate more geography lessons.  We've both been enjoying The Little Cousin Series, and including some in-depth study of the different countries will be nice.

It's hard for me to imagine the fear I had of independent homeschooling.  There are so many free resources out there to fit anyone's needs.  Thank you for visiting and catching up on what we are doing in our homeschool.
