This has been a fun week of reading about spiders, lions, and bears, oh my. Ok, we didn't read about bears, but the stories about the spider and lion were of much interest to my son.He learned how the epeira gets a web across a brook. How the spider disables it's prey once it has been caught in the web, and a little about the "poison" and it's effect on humans. It has not decreased his fear of the little insects, but there is much more appreciation for the work the spider does to keep us from other bothersome insects.
In our Bible Study we read more about Moses and the Israelites, and their journey through the wilderness. There was a wonderful description of the Tabernacle they built for "The House of God."
In History we learned more about Greece and How Leonidas Kept the Pass. When it comes to stories of war, my son's interest is peaked. Boys!
Math and Grammar are still a little bit of a struggle, mostly due to my son's inability to apply what he has already learned. I am being very patience with these subjects. He is writing complete sentences with his spelling words and answering questions for other subjects, so even though he thinks grammar is being put on hold there is progress being made.
My son has been helping me more with cooking which is helping with learning measurements. He is studying time with some of his Science projects, and there have been the occasional moments where mathematics have been used without him being aware of the work he is doing. The more opportunities that arise for him to practice what he has learned, and realize on his own the work he is doing the easier it is for me to introduce more skills.
Other than drawing, my son's favorite subject seems to be Health. Maybe it is because of the amazing graphics in the book or because we laugh the most during this subject, but we both look forward to reading the next chapter in First Book of Physiology and Hygiene. And finally, speaking of drawing, we started Drawspace.com this week. Other than the gazillion creations my son creates everyday, he has been begging to have a formal drawing curriculum. I have been holding back on letting him start this curriculum as incentive for an appropriate attitude toward other subjects. Let's just say it was well worth the wait.
Soon we will also be incorporating Garden of Praise for Art Appreciation.
That was a brief synopsis of our week, how was your week?
